FOCUS

Recognizing the need for programs that focus on a young woman’s change-transition-transformation in consciousness, character and community, NDP aids in the journey of young women of color from one defined position or stage of life, development or experience to their next phase. During the process, a window of “newness” is opened; expanding their realm of possibilities, capabilities, and horizons, that are not only envisioned but implemented. In minority cultures, rites of passages fill the gap between formal education and home training:

  • Knowledge of Self.     The ultimate goal of this stage is to help develop the ability to analyze complex issues and make informed, sensitive, decisive decisions, as well      as, have uncomfortable conversations. These skills are essential for our members to fully understand themselves and the world they have  inherited.
  • Sisterhood Building.     In this safe space, members learn about and discuss topics related to focus areas and other themes relevant to Black and Brown young      women.
  • Rites of Passage/Transition.    The phase includes an intensive process of  self-reflection, community and global analysis as they reflect on their newness.

GOALS

Become the examples of female leaders that they need to see for  future leaders.

Formulate a strong sisterhood of like-minded women of color, by recognizing, empowering, and cultivating female students of color into adept women  leaders with a deep sense of self, love of philanthropy, understanding leadership  development and the importance of community involvement.

Provide young women of color with skills, knowledge, and habits that will enable them to prepare themselves and each other academically, culturally, socially, and emotionally for an efficacious transition into productive women and leaders.

Support one another in a safe space with overcoming barriers, realizing their talents/strengths, and celebrating every success.

Concentrate on Affective, Cognitive, and Behavioral Learning Capabilities through projects, collaborations and experiences on-campus and off-campus.

Explore beyond comfort zone…get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
